The Story Behind TOC Creations Coffee Products
A cup of coffee, a grandfather's lessons, and memories that last
Every fragrance at TOC Creations begins with a memory.
Some memories are found in a family kitchen. Some are found on a front porch. And some begin on a cold Alabama morning sitting inside an old truck, waiting quietly for the woods to come alive.
The story behind TOC Creations Coffee begins with my mother, Nana, and the man who taught her so much — her daddy.
When Nana was a little girl, her daddy would take her hunting with him. But sometimes Alabama mornings were simply too cold to sit outside waiting for deer. Instead, they would sit together in his truck, warming up with a cup of coffee while they watched and waited.
Those quiet moments became some of her most treasured memories.
A simple cup of coffee. A lifetime of memories.
The Coffee That Started It All
Her daddy drank his coffee the old-fashioned way — made in a percolator, the kind that filled the house with a smell that meant morning had arrived.
He had his own special way of enjoying it. He would soak his biscuits in his coffee and eat them with a spoon. Sometimes he would add molasses and butter to his biscuit and enjoy it alongside that familiar cup of percolated coffee.
To some people, those may seem like simple things.
But simple things are often where our sweetest memories live.
A Man Shaped By His Time
Nana's daddy was a man shaped by the times he lived in.
He was born in Elmore County, Alabama, in the country, during a time when families worked hard for everything they had.
He lived through the Great Depression. His family grew their own food, picked cotton, and worked the land as tenant farmers.
They lived on land owned by someone else, and the crops they raised and the cotton they picked belonged to the landowner. Families often received credit at the country store for necessities like clothing, tools, and supplies, paying back what they owed through their hard work and harvest.
Life was not easy, but families learned the value of hard work, taking care of what they had, and finding joy in simple moments.
More Than A Farmer
He was a cotton farmer.
He worked in a cotton mill as a spinner.
He served our country during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines.
Later, he became part of the Corps of Engineers as a core driller supervisor.
But some of Nana's most treasured memories are not about his jobs. They are about what he taught her.
He taught his daughter how to work on cars and how to do carpentry.
He believed that just because she was a girl did not mean she should not know how to take care of herself or understand how things worked.
"Just because you're a girl doesn't mean you shouldn't know how to take care of your car."
Those lessons stayed with her for a lifetime.
